For the Foundation's Race Night I produced the programme, but I decided to veer from previous designs and produce a two sided A4 flyer with all of the races listed. I watched every race meticulously to match up the colours and silks to the numbers on the very average footage of the races, and then I assigned a player that would be attending to each horse as the 'Jockey' then came up with a punny name for the horse.
My favourites were 'Turner Round Bright Eyes' for someone called Turner, 'You'll Never Walk Cerrone' for someone called Cerrone (pronounced sur-rone), and 'Hewlett the Dogs Out' for someone called Hewlett.
For the reverse, I mocked up a newspaper sports back page with some information on the event, and identifying the sponsors. Finally I skewed it slightly with newspaper-edge texture in the space to give it a scanned appearance.
It's always a bit of a risk with things like this, but I was really pleased with how it went down, and it was a talking point for quite a few days afterwards.
